There were no any historical records to be found before the emergence of modern hotels, to say nothing of any theoretical research on the process of transition in hotel. It is only since the late nineteenth century that With Korea"s open door policy, There were a few hotels such as Daebul Hotel, Steward Hotel, Sontag Hotel and Station Hotel. Sontag Hotel, built in 1902 by a Korea governor, was a luxury hotel in Seoul. It was managed by a German Sontag and a private hotel for diplomats and foreign envoys. Hotel Daebul, built in 1888 by a Japanese Hori, Kyutaro, was the first modern hotel in Korea and hotel customers were the westerners who visited In-cheon port. But modern hotels were driven out of hotel business in 1910. Hotels in korea modern enlightenment have various socio-cultural meanings. Historical research method continually has to be studied in tourism and hotel management. and Tourism and hotel history have to be included in curriculum.
