The aim of this study is to suggest research directions for user experience on blockchain technology through literature survey. Blockchain has emerged as a key technology to develop a transparent and decentralized system with functions such as a smart contract and an identity authentication. Numerous studies have been conducted to foster blockchain technology and apply it to real life applications. Most of the studies have been conducted solely to improve technological capability. They have neglected user experience that should be considered in the product development process. We collected 175 blockchain research papers that were published from 125 journals and conferences in nearly three years. Among these collected papers, we found only 24 papers relevant to user experience and they were classified according to their publication year, source, and research type. Although there were still few user experience studies for a blockchain product or service, the number of the studies tends to increase. Finally, we classified these studies into five types according to research types and suggested four future research directions. This paper will be a milestone for a pioneering blockchain user experience researcher.
